High Desert Medical College’s Vocational Nursing diploma program is designed to teach students the basic skills and essential functions of vocational nursing. Students are prepared for entry-level VN positions leading to careers or career advancement in a number of health care facilities including hospitals, medical centers, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and private practices. HDMC’s vocational nursing program is approved by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians, and HDMC is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) and is licensed by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). What Will I Learn in HDMC’s Vocational Nursing Program?

At High Desert Medical College, students learn the essential skills needed to provide basic nursing care, administer medications, document a patient’s signs and symptoms, and perform therapeutic and rehabilitative measures. The program also includes a clinical externship, providing students with critically-important hands-on skills training. Students learn how to complete critical tasks, including:

How Long Is HDMC’s VN Program, and What Will I Get When I Graduate?

The Vocational Nursing diploma program at High Desert Medical College is designed to be completed in as few as 61 weeks. Upon completion of HDMC’s program, graduates receive Certificate of Completion, Vocational Nursing diploma, and are prepared to take the NCLEX exam for Vocational Nurse licensure.

High Desert Medical College also offers an AAS Vocational Nursing program, in which students complete additional General Education courses for a total program length of 93 weeks. The VN AAS program enables students to develop enhanced critical thinking skills, greater scientific knowledge, and quality verbal/written communication skills, becoming more well rounded professionals and more qualified job candidates.
