HDMC’s Ultrasound Technician Associate of Applied Science program is offered in a hybrid format, combining ultrasound theory, hands-on lab training, online General Education courses and real-world experience through a clinical externship.

The AAS-only portion consists of 24 weeks of General Education coursework offered 100% online.
Morning/afternoon and evening schedules are available depending on campus and class availability.
High Desert Medical College offers its Ultrasound Technician AAS program at its Bakersfield, Lancaster, and Temecula, California campuses. Students’ complete hybrid classroom instruction along with hands-on training at their selected HDMC campus.

The Ultrasound Technician AAS curriculum combines diagnostic medical sonography training with General Education coursework designed to strengthen critical thinking, communication and professional skills.

Students also gain experience using SonoSim technology, which provides access to ultrasound training modules, real-patient scanning cases and pathologies.
No prior medical or ultrasound experience is required to begin the full Ultrasound Technician AAS program.
Applicants must meet HDMC’s admissions requirements, including having a high school diploma or recognized equivalent. Additional entrance testing may be required; see the school catalog for current admissions requirements.
Students who have already completed HDMC’s Ultrasound Technician Certificate program may be eligible to complete the AAS portion remotely through additional online General Education coursework.

Ultrasound technicians, also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, operate specialized imaging equipment to capture images of internal organs, tissues and blood vessels. They work with patients during exams, capture and evaluate images, take measurements and provide information to physicians who interpret the results.
The complete Ultrasound Technician AAS program can be completed in as few as 108 weeks with morning/afternoon classes or 123 weeks with evening classes. The program includes 2,660 clock hours and 116 semester credits.
Students who have already completed HDMC’s Ultrasound Technician Certificate program may complete the AAS-only portion in 24 weeks.
The complete program is offered in a hybrid format. Core ultrasound training includes hands-on, on-campus instruction and a clinical externship, while the additional General Education courses required for the AAS degree are offered online.
Students who have already completed HDMC’s Ultrasound Technician Certificate program may be able to complete the remaining AAS coursework 100% online.
No prior medical or ultrasound experience is required to begin the full program. HDMC’s curriculum is designed to teach students the foundational knowledge, technical skills and hands-on scanning techniques needed to prepare for entry-level opportunities.
