Bianca Rangel, Dental Assisting program, HDMC Bakersfield

Bianca Rangel is a student at HDMC Bakersfield in the Dental Assisting program. Bianca says HDMC was the right choice for her because she knew at HDMC she would receive the care and guidance she needed as she pursued her new career. Bianca says, “I chose High Desert Medical College because of the welcoming feeling when calling for the first time. HDMC made me feel that it did not matter how scared or confused I was of this new chapter in my life, they would be there all the way to help me and guide me in whatever I needed.” Like many HDMC students, Bianca desired a better career and a better life, but as a working mother, she already had a full plate. HDMC’s flexible schedules and welcoming environment made it the right choice for her. Bianca says, “HDMC offered a schedule that worked perfectly with my schedule. As a full time mother, wife and employee I needed something that would fit into my busy schedule and my pm class Monday to Thursday was the perfect fit.”

Bianca was nominated for the Student Spotlight by her Bakersfield instructor, Adriana Mendoza. Chosen for her dedication, work ethic, and positive attitude, Mendoza says she is confident that Bianca will go far in her chosen career path. In her nomination, Mendoza wrote: “I would describe Bianca as Hardworking, Dedicated and Sincere. Bianca is a mother of three, a wife and has a full-time job where she drives out for 45 minutes daily and begins her shift at 4:00 AM! Despite the sacrifice of her long daily commute to work and the early starts she always shows up to class with a smile on her face. She is always positive and very sincere.”

At HDMC, Dental Assisting students like Bianca learn to perform important administrative and clinical tasks to support dental offices. Students learn dental practice office management, dental assistant procedures, chair side assisting, dental anatomy, radiography and imaging. HDMC’s Dental Assisting program can be completed in as few as 34 weeks, and graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Dental Assisting diploma and an X-Ray certification, and are prepared to test for relevant industry certifications, such as through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).

With the support of HDMC’s Career Services department, graduates of the program enter the job market with confidence. The Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance. While HDMC cannot guarantee employment upon graduation, HDMC instructors and Career Services staff consistently seek to assist students with employment opportunities prior to and after graduation.
