Celina Mata, HDMC Lancaster
Celina Mata is a student at HDMC Lancaster in the Clinical Medical Assisting program. Celina is a 25 year old single mother of two little ones, ages 4 and 9 months, who she says are her motivation. Celina recently said, “They’re my reason to push and strive and make a change in our life.” Celina was inspired to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant after her young son was diagnosed with Autism with behavioral health problems. Celina said, “Seeing him and watching him struggle on a daily basis is what made me decide to join High Desert Medical College in the Medical Assistant Program to help my son with his disability and be a role model for my daughter and have a better future for all of us.”
Celina’s instructor nominated her for the Student Spotlight because of her determination, positive attitude, support of classmates, and exemplary academic performance. Of Celina, Lancaster instructor Bertha A. Ledezma, NCMA, AS said, “The reason I am nominating her is because she is exemplary student… Celina comes into class with the biggest smile on her face and so much determination. She takes the day on with a positive attitude. She helps her classmates out and stays behind to help being their patient when everyone is gone. She deserves to be in the spotlight.”
