Alexus Lopez, Dental Assisting program, HDMC Bakersfield (p.m. class)

Alexus Lopez is a student at HDMC Bakersfield in the Dental Assisting program. First attracted to HDMC because the dental program could be completed in a short amount of time, Alexus recently said, “I (am) able to say for the first time in my life that I enjoy going to school. I’m entirely proud of myself for making the decision to join the Dental assisting program but I am more grateful than ever to be learning from the best and I cannot wait to grow within the dental field.’’

Alexus’ Bakersfield instructor, Adriana Mendoza, nominated Alexus for the Student Spotlight. Mendoza described Alexus as “…Goal-oriented, Driven and Determined’’ and noted that Alexus gives it all when it comes to her education. Mendoza said, “Alexus demonstrated that with determination, adaptivity would follow. She has proven that no matter how difficult the situation may present, it can be done with perseverance and determination! I am honored to be her instructor and to be part of her journey to a life changing career!”

Malynn Stepp, Dental Assisting program, HDMC Bakersfield (a.m. class)

Malynn Stepp attends the a.m. Dental Assisting program at HDMC Bakersfield, also with instructor Adriana Mendoza. Malynn chose HDMC for her dental assisting training after touring the HDMC campus. According to Malynn, ‘’The reason I picked HDMC is because from the moment I walked onto the campus I felt this energy on campus that caught my attention very fast…  when I met my teacher and my classmates I knew this was the school (for) me and I still believe that today and I’m so glad I chose HDMC to further my education.’’

Instructor Adriana Mendoza nominated Malynn for the Featured Student Spotlight series due to her dedication, work ethic, and positive attitude. Mendoza said, “I would describe Malynn as ‘Dedicated, Happy and Adaptable.’ Malynn drives about 45 minutes to be on campus. And despite her far commute, she is a cheerful and driven student. She is great on helping others and a great team player. She has demonstrated that dedication will push you through and make you successful. Thank you Malynn for all your hard work!”

Christina Leal, Dental Assisting program, HDMC Temecula

A single mother of two, Christina Leal chose HDMC for her dental assistant training after speaking with a friend who was enrolled at HDMC. According to Christina, “I chose HDMC because I had a friend who started attending for a phlebotomist course to add to her credentials. She spoke highly of the school and recommended I try my dental course here. I’m glad I did because Mrs. Lorena Cardenas exceeded any expectations I had and was the one person who truly helped me every single step of the way. Words can not express how truly grateful I am to have had her be my teacher.”

Instructor Lorena Cardenas thinks highly of Christina as well, describing her as “Determined, Adaptable and Selfless.” Cardenas nominated Christina for the Student Spotlight, saying “From day one she expressed passion and interest in the dental field… Christina has a very pleasant personality and gets along with everyone she meets and is always helping others.” Instructor Cardenas noted Christina’s perseverance, even when tasks were difficult. According to Cardenas, “…when she was learning how to take x-rays… she didn’t understand the angulations and the difference in techniques. Despite her frustration, she was very patient and would ask the same question until she understood the techniques. Now she does amazing on her x-rays and techniques; this just shows her passion, her drive, her patience and her perseverance.” Cardenas continued on to praise Christina further, saying, “I am glad I was able to be her Instructor and (she) will be very successful in the dental field.”
