Moriah Hernandez, Dental Assisting program, HDMC Bakersfield
Moriah Hernandez is a student at HDMC Bakersfield in the Dental Assisting program. Moriah was motivated to attend the Dental Assistant program because she desires to become a Certified Orthodontic Assistant. According to Moriah, HDMC has been the “perfect fit.” Moriah says, “Out of all of the schools that I had looked into, I chose HDMC because of the professionalism and friendly nature of the staff. It felt like the perfect fit as soon as I walked through the doors. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Adriana as my instructor and with her guidance and support, I feel like she has fully prepared me to be successful in the dental field. After graduation, I plan on obtaining my RDA as soon as possible and then becoming a certified ortho assistant shortly after. Through this program, I have truly found my passion and I can’t wait to see how far I’ll go.”
Moriah’s Bakersfield instructor, Adriana Mendoza, feels a similar excitement for what the future holds for her student. Mendoza said, “Moriah has been a great addition to our Dental Assisting Program here at HDMC. She has demonstrated to be a passionate, goal-oriented and determined student. She motivates others with her positive energy and is always willing to help others. I am excited to see how far Moriah will get and can’t wait to see her succeed in her chosen career as a Dental Assistant!
Moriah has not only motivated her peers and earned her instructor’s admiration, she has also been selected for the Pacific Dental Services Foundation’s Dr. Carolyn Ghazal Scholarship award! The PDSF’s Dr. Carolyn Ghazal Dental Assistant Scholarship provides students with need-based financial aid, mentorship, and on the job training. Scholarships are awarded based on application excellence, financial need and a heart for service. HDMC is so proud of Moriah for earning this distinguished scholarship award!
At HDMC, students in the Dental Assisting program learn to perform important administrative and clinical tasks to support dental offices, including dental practice office management, dental assistant procedures, chair side assisting, dental anatomy, radiography and imaging. HDMC’s Dental Assisting program can be completed in as few as 34 weeks, and graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Dental Assisting diploma and an X-Ray certification, and are prepared to test for relevant industry certifications, such as through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
After completing their program, HDMC graduates enter the job market with confidence, thanks to the support of HDMC’s Career Services department. High Desert Medical College is committed to assisting our program graduates in the pursuit of stable, rewarding employment, and the Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance. While the school cannot guarantee employment upon graduation, HDMC instructors and Career Services staff consistently seek to assist students with employment opportunities prior to and after graduation.
