Ultrasound Technicians, MRI Technologists, and Cardiac Sonographers all play key roles in today’s modern diagnosis and treatment teams. HDMC, accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET), offers specialized training programs designed to prepare students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for these allied healthcare careers. With training from HDMC, you can get the hands-on training you need to enter into one of these great career paths!

Ultrasound Technicians specialize in using sophisticated equipment to produce images of internal organs, soft tissue, and blood vessels, as well as to observe developing fetuses in the womb. Also known as diagnostic medical sonography, ultrasound is painless and harmless with no radiation. Many ultrasound technicians choose to specialize in a particular area, including Obstetric and Gynecologic, Abdominal, Echocardiography, Neuro-brain, Breast Sonography, or Vascular Technology. The Ultrasound Technician program at High Desert Medical College is designed to prepare students for positions in hospitals, private medical practices, physician offices, medical and diagnostic laboratories and outpatient care centers. The diploma program can be completed in 84 weeks, and graduates receive a Certificate of Completion. Or, students may choose to complete additional General Education courses in order to obtain their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. The AAS degree program can be completed in 108 weeks total, and graduates receive their Associate of Applied Science, Ultrasound Technician degree.

MRI Technologists specialize in magnetic resonance imaging scanners, highly sophisticated medical equipment which uses magnetic fields in combination with a contrast agent to produce images that a physician can use to diagnose medical problems. HDMC’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) AAS Degree program is designed to prepare students for careers in the radiologic and MRI technologists field. The program can be completed in as few as 115 weeks, and graduates of the program receive their Associate of Applied Science, Magnetic Resonance Imaging degree.

Cardiac Sonographers, or Echocardiograph Technicians, use ultrasound devices and other imaging tools that use sound waves to create images of the heart, inspecting the chambers and walls of the heart as well as the valves. The Cardiac Sonography AAS Degree program at HDMC is designed to prepare graduates for employment as a Cardiac Sonographer in imaging centers, physician’s offices, clinics, mobile units, or hospitals that do not require a certification to be employed. The program can be completed in as few as 115 weeks (morning / afternoon classes) or 130 weeks (evening classes). Graduates of the program receive their Associate of Applied Science, Cardiac Sonography degree.

All three AAS degree programs are offered in a convenient hybrid-online format, combining classroom theory, lab procedures, an externship, and online learning for general education requirements. General Education and introductory courses take place primarily online, using Interactive Distance Learning (IDL), while labs are held on campus for hands-on skills building under the supervision of professional instructional staff. Students in the Ultrasound Technician and Cardiac Sonography programs utilize SonoSim technology, and students in the MRI program utilize Corsmed technology –  state-of-the-art educational tools that complement students’ training by providing remote hands-on ultrasound training, real-patient scanning cases and pathologies, didactic instruction, and assessment. Additionally, all HDMC students gain hands-on skills and build real-world experience through off-site externships

With HDMC, you can gain the skills, knowledge, and practical experience you need to enter the healthcare field with confidence.
