Veterinary assistants are specially trained to provide critical assistance and support to scientists, veterinarians, and veterinary technologists and technicians with their daily tasks. Responsible for handling routine animal care, typical tasks of a veterinary assistant include:
- Preparing veterinary exam rooms
- Maintaining and sterilizing surgical instruments
- Intaking animals for exams
- Feeding animals
- Bathing animals
- Exercising animals
- Restraining animals during procedures
- Caring for and monitoring animals after surgery or treatment
