Medical Administrative Assisting

At High Desert Medical College, our Medical Administrative Assistant program is designed to prepare students to work in the essential field of administrative healthcare. Medical Administrative Assistants are important support team members, responsible for completing administrative tasks in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. This 15-week program provides students with intensive training to learn the skills to complete the tasks required of Medical Administrative Assistants.

Students in the Medical Administrative Assistant learn:

  • Greeting patients and answering telephone calls
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Verifying patient information and health insurance
  • Updating and filing patients’ medical records
  • Preparing and processing insurance claims
  • Administering the day-to-day functions of a medical office

Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Medical Administrative Assistant diploma.

HDMC is ITRAIN and CAL JOBS approved

High Desert Medical College is listed on ITRAIN and CAL JOBS for our Medical Administrative Assisting program. HDMC is a partner with the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SWIB) – an agency for the state of California that pays for training services to unemployed people seeking a new career field.

How does it work?
Go to your unemployment office and meet with a counselor looking for resources to train for a new career. High Desert Medical College is on listings called ITRAIN and CAL JOBS that give the unemployment counselors schools that SWIB finances the training. The counselor will give you a voucher which you bring to HDMC to attend. Both of our campuses are listed on this site – Bakersfield and Lancaster.

Contact HDMC today if you or someone you know is unemployed. You may qualify for training services to be paid through the State, which will allow you to start training for your new Medical Administrative Assistant career.
